Portable toilets and outdoor sinks have been installed, guests can order hot food and drinks remotely via a QR code, and an outdoor snack tent has been installed for quick goodies.
All through the month of October, horror movies old and new are being featured, including HALLOWEEN 2018 and THE EVIL DEAD. Check the official website for the latest schedule, prices, and upcoming titles.

-The drive-in is accessible only to those in vehicles–for movies and A/V presentations only (e.g., worship services).
-Vehicles are spaced at least 10 feet apart (every other parking space).
-No one may leave their vehicle except to visit the restroom.
-Access to the restroom is limited to 1 person (plus a minor child or a disabled companion) at a time. Restrooms are sanitized every 30 minutes.
-Social distancing signage is in place, and all of these restrictions are provided to drive-in customers upon entry.
-Staffing is kept to a minimum; they oversee vehicle entry and ensure the above rules are followed or else a vehicle is told to leave.

-Masks are required at all times outside of your own vehicle.

Located just a little northwest of downtown near Texas Station and  Fiesta Rancho casinos, West Wind Las Vegas 6 is riding a sudden wave of popularity. While many drive-ins are long gone, West Wind continues to be an entertainment success. The modern digital picture is sharper, brighter, and is easily a match for their indoor counterparts. Sound is broadcast through high-quality FM onto your own car speakers, so you can control the volume and “oomph”.

89992712_10222185818100118_8948878684102590464_n

What makes drive-in theaters especially popular right now is that their unique concept (watching movies under the stars) fits right into the coronavirus outbreak’s “social distancing” guidelines. Once you slide your payment through a crack in the car window, you can avoid being in close proximity to other human beings. The only folks you’ll encounter are the ones inside their concession stand building (or if you need to use the restroom).

o (5)

While indoor theaters charge upwards of $12.00 for a single movie, adult admission to West Wind 6 Drive-in is only $8.00. The titles change every week, with a combination of brand-new releases and holdover hits. Certain screens offer a double-feature of two recent films for the same low price. Children ages 5-11 get in for $2.00, and kids under 5 are free. Tuesdays are even cheaper, with adult tickets costing $5.50. The website offers a newsletter with Internet coupon offers, too.

When global pandemics aren’t the biggest worry of your day, you’ll want to return on a regular basis. An expansion of the outdoor dining and playground areas has added to the drive-in’s appeal. The snack bar offers typical movie-going fare but at noticeably lower prices. And, they’ve upped the fun factor with seasonal activities. During Halloween, the snack bar gets turned into a mini haunted house, complete with staff members in costume. Several times a year, West Wind hosts a Customer Appreciation Night with absolutely free admission, fun, and games.

29594518_1652871388125877_5248432996129476176_n

The main concession building is located in the center of the property. It has a playground and outdoor picnic tables so you can stuff yourself on hot dogs and nachos without missing the movie. Of course, if you want to sneak a peek at one of the other five screens, I won’t tell. They often host special events with pony rides, live entertainment, and a petting zoo.

So, if the quarantine has you suffering from cabin fever, West Wind Drive-in Theater has the cure. Step back in time, look for the lighted arches and classic neon signage. Bring a pillow, wear your pajamas and bunny slippers if you like, and it’s even okay to smoke. And, nobody will scold you if you chat or decide to make out in the back seat.

West Wind Las Vegas Drive-in Theater is open year-round, rain or shine. It’s located at 4150 West Carey Avenue, northwest of downtown. Click HERE for their current movie titles/showtimes or call  (702) 646-3565 OR (702) 647-1379 for more information.

‘Señor Frog’s DRAG BRUNCH’ Extends Performance Schedule at Treasure Island

Trendy hit adds weekday performances to accommodate capacity crowds…

It’s bold, outrageous and one of those experiences that you just can’t wait to tell your friends at home about. It’s Señor Frog’s DRAG BRUNCH, the wild adults-only hit at Treasure Island. Presented by Voss Events, Drag Brunch is delicious food, shocking comedy, crazy dance numbers, and audience interaction, all served with a heaping helping of sass. And after four successful years, it’s one Sin City production that just keeps growing.

78356290_2305450442894215_7703842766790328320_n

The recent launch of RuPaul’s Drag Race Live! at Flamingo (also by Voss Events) is the latest cherry on that bright, sugary confection known as “drag.” A longtime Vegas institution, female impersonation goes back several decades in legendary shows up and down the Strip. From “Boylesque” at the Silver Slipper Casino to “Frank Marino’s DIVAS” and the current incarnation of Tropicana‘s “LEGENDS IN CONCERT,” drag continues to become more popular with each passing year. It’s also changed with the times and evolved from “fringe” to “mainstream”.

20200213_144645

Senor Frog’s DRAG BRUNCH was way ahead of the craze when it launched in 2016. The late-morning experience was already a hit in cutting-edge cities like New York, Miami, Los Angeles, and Toronto. But the unpredictable nature of audiences led Drag Brunch Las Vegas to start off slowly with only one scheduled performance per week. Fortunately, capacity crowds resulted in the addition of a second same-day performance, then an expansion to both Saturdays and Sundays.

DragBrunch2-960x530

Now you can channel your inner diva eight times a week as Senor Frog’s DRAG BRUNCH is taking over a few weekdays, too. Hosted by RuPaul’s Drag Race alumnus “Shannel”, the show features a rotating cast of top-tier talent, many familiar to fans of the hit TV series. Their current performance schedule is Thursday through Sunday at 11:30am and 2:30pm. A large unlimited buffet featuring breakfast favorites, lunchtime selections, and delicious Mexican specialties, is provided by Senor Frog’s Restaurant.

Admission price to DRAG BRUNCH includes seating, show, brunch, and bottomless mimosas. There are upgrade packages for VIP seating, full open bar, and photos with the cast. If you’re a newbie and uncertain about “transitioning” into the world of drag entertainment, an inconspicuous standing-room option at the rear bar ($10) allows you to enjoy the insanity from a “safe” distance. Chances are that once you discover the wonderful world of drag, your concerns will fade away and you’ll soon join in on the fun.

With chart-topping dance hits, classic impersonation and lots of naughty innuendo, Senor Frog’s Drag Brunch is a top-notch smorgasbord of sights and sounds. So grab your friends, leave your inhibitions at the door…and make sure the little ones stay at home.

Dad’s recording-industry background provides the backdrop for a marvelous collection of hits both classic and current. A must-see production that touches the heart, The Bronx Wanderers will lift you higher and send your soul dancing into the streets.

Step Into the Magic Phone Booth of ‘Bucket Listin’

Raucous Vegas-based comedy-adventure series features the antics of AGT’s Daniel Emmet and heartthrob Mark Justice…

Screenshot 2020-02-11 at 8.50.40 PM

What’s more fun than a pair of regular “bros” cutting loose in Las Vegas? The answer lies in Bucket Listin’, a brand new web-based show debuting on YouTube. Bucket Listin’ follows the free-wheeling and unpredictable team of singer Daniel Emmet and actor Mark Justice as they teleport from one Las Vegas adventure to the next…via a retro telephone booth. How do they decide on their latest destination? Well, from picking pre-loaded fortune cookies out of a wooden bucket, of course. Yes, it’s just as crazy as it sounds.

While the premise is certainly outrageous, the strength of Bucket Listin’ lies in the charming personalities of its two hosts and the effusive chemistry they share. Emmet is fresh off a successful stint as a finalist in 2018’s America’s Got Talent. His powerhouse voice has been entertaining audiences at events and concerts all around the country. He’s also been riding a well-deserved wave of stellar reviews for his residency at Cleopatra’s Barge inside Caesars Palace.

Readers of Vegas Unfiltered and its corresponding Facebook page should be quite familiar with my affection for Mark “You probably don’t know me at all” Justice. The handsome and chiseled action star/underwear model bounces around the city like a Price Is Right Plinko chip, landing in places as diverse as Excalibur‘s Tournament of Kings, Fremont Street Experience and last fall’s Halloween event SCARE at Town Square. He’s also a writer/director/producer with over one hundred credits listed on the Internet Movie Database, including a collection of fantasy and horror films shot right in and around Sin City.

Screenshot 2020-02-12 at 3.33.15 PM

Emmet and Justice first released a teaser for Bucket Listin’ on Christmas Eve, when they gathered around the fireplace for a fractured version of “Twas the Night Before Christmas”. It was clear right away that the two were planning on presenting something unusual and quite fun for 2020. The series was officially announced on New Year’s Day (S1E0), then the pilot arrived last week, a whole month earlier than expected.

Screenshot 2020-02-11 at 8.54.36 PM

Apparently, the creative team behind Bucket Listin’ has a fetish for holidays, as the premiere episode (S1E1) is entitled “Valentine’s Day Chocolate Destruction”. All the better to play a cringe-inducing game of chocolate-dipped “Who Knows?”, followed by a trip to Battlefield Vegas for a crushing romantic encounter with a tank.

Subsequent episodes will chronicle the boys’ exploits as they face some of the many extreme adventures that Las Vegas has to offer. From a Grand Canyon experience and high-speed police chase to skydiving and flying a plane, Emmet and Justice are sure to tickle your funnybone and raise adrenaline to maximum levels.

Since I’ve already crossed those challenges and more from my own bucket list, I’m sure the guys are up to the task. They’ll just look way cooler while doing it…and a whole lot funnier. Kids these days…..I tell ya.

New ‘AUSSIE HEAT’ Show Debuts at MOSAIC ON THE STRIP

Top-rated male revue brings the fun closer than ever at new venue…

They’re fun. They’re flirty. And they’ve never been more within reach. That’s because Aussie Heat, the sizzling hands-on dance revue from Down Under is now delivering their wild, sexy production directly to you…right on the Las Vegas Strip.

86349770_902826056817310_4909373075046268928_o

Aussie Heat‘s new location is MOSAIC ON THE STRIP, a historic venue directly across from Park MGM Resort‘s EATALY. Formerly known as the Tommy Wind Theater (and Empire Ballroom before that), MOSAIC ON THE STRIP is an entertainment fan’s dream. The lush, classy venue is ushering in its next era with significant modern upgrades thanks to new management.

87258739_908150736284842_3216826368926941184_o

Easily accessible from both sides of the Strip via a brand new pedestrian overpass, the independently-owned MOSAIC is a departure from the ordinary performance space. MOSAIC offers multi-level seating options to complement a nightclub-style vibe. A full-service bar/lounge welcomes guests before the curtain rises and hosts a free meet-and-greet party after every performance. There’s also a dedicated parking lot for easy in-and-out access.

As former contests of Australia’s Got Talent, the boys of Aussie Heat began their Vegas experience in a humble Downtown production called “Aussie Hunks”. Through the ensuing four-plus years, they’ve had a name change, amped up the excitement and outgrown their previous home at Miracle Mile’s V Theater. With hundreds of steamy performances under their loosened belts, Aussie Heat has deservedly earned great reviews and top rankings on both TripAdvisor and Yelp!.

86457514_903638243402758_6163300171661705216_o

Host (and show owner) Adam Barr is excited about the next big step in their quest to be Sin City’s top male revue. “The props and sets are better. The costumes are hotter. Our cast has expanded to take advantage of a bigger stage. We’ve added fantastic new acts and even an aerialist or two. And it’s still all about the audience having fun in ways they can’t at other shows. Thunder From Down Under is great, and Chippendales paved the way for this type of production. But we’re the only show of its kind where all of the members began as trained dancers first.”

thumbnail_AH--Production-Shot-3000-1

As an independently-produced show, Aussie Heat has the luxury of specifically tailoring sequences to the talents of individual performers. Muscular six-foot-four stuntman Simon will be featured in an action-packed new movie-themed number. Former castmates from Cirque du Soleil have come aboard to show off their gravity-defying skills. And pop-and-lock king Lennie adds his signature moves to the latest chart-topping hits.

As always, Aussie Heat remains interactive, “hands-on”, and trend-setting in their embracing of male guests…and the LGBTQ community as a whole. Unlike at competing shows, guys are encouraged along with the ladies to participate in onstage games, outrageous group photos, and of course…lap dances.

So brace yourself and hang on for a very wild ride through the outback. As Barr succinctly says with a laugh “If you don’t like attention from male dancers, you just might be at the wrong #%!& show!”.

thumbnail_AH--Production-Shot-3000-2

MOSAIC ON THE STRIP is located at 3765 Las Vegas Blvd. Aussie Heat performs Thursday through Monday at 10pm. Ages 21 and over. Tickets start at $54.99 (plus taxes/fees).

HOT GUYS OF VEGAS: Men on the Go

The latest round of sizzling hunks can’t seem to stay put…

What makes a guy “hot”? Is it their confidence? Perhaps their charm? For many, it’s a love for animals, and quite often the body language they exude. A winning smile, chiseled physique and the right clothes all make a man stand out from the crowd.

For this edition of ‘Hot Guys of Vegas’, we get close and comfy with active men who know how to show off their physiques and electrify a crowd. So let’s pop open a few buttons and get started with…

Adam D. Tucker aka “Vegas McGraw” –  recording/tribute artist

Screenshot 2020-02-16 at 3.19.54 PM

Where You’ve Seen Him – “Country Superstars”, “Vegas Gone Country”

The amazing transformation of Tim McGraw from dad-bod handsome to super-chiseled sex idol sold countless issues of tabloid magazines. Dazzling tribute artist Adam D. Tucker has no problem keeping up with…and even exceeding…the Grammy-winning country artist when it comes to physiques.

Screenshot 2020-02-16 at 3.33.01 PM

86220870_10156939516491218_2432368601110413312_n

Tucker can match the memorable vocals of McGraw, too. The Las Vegas-based entertainer may be a tribute artist, but he’s also an awesome singer in his own right. He’s recorded two solo albums in Nashville and has opened for superstars like Taylor Swift and Reba McEntire.

When he’s not performing with his band in concerts around the country, you can find Adam emceeing events, heating things up at modeling shoots or sharing his upbeat messages as a motivational speaker. The dedicated dad loves meeting people and makes each show a personal experience with post-performance photo ops.

20190821_181041

All of that boundless energy can’t be contained by a few flimsy buttons, so don’t be surprised if Adam’s beefy chest and rippled abs make a gratuitous guest appearance. When Vegas McGraw takes to the mic, you’ll be singing “I like it, I love it, I want some more of it.” But good luck tracking him down, as he’s ALWAYS on the go. Here’s a typical day:

“This upcoming week Vegas to Florida back to Vegas then NASCAR followed by Cannery Casino performance. Just boarded my flight on Allegiant Air. As always these flights are tighter than my shirts. I will be headlining to Ripley, WV 4th of July 2020 Celebration! Yes, I’m beyond burnt out but have been for many years! Can’t stop now! It’s hard to get the Tucker boys to sit still!”

Noteworthy traits – smooth bare pecs, swarthy facial hair, smoldering moves

Ivan Alex Cruz –  online fitness coach/motivator

79734431_916728105395256_2230699403864178688_o

Where You’ve Seen Him – Instagram, Iconic Nightclub, Vegas fitness facilities

Some people talk about fitness and some actually live it. The best of these are people who share their knowledge and strive to motivate others that are on their own journeys. Through loss and rough times, Ivan Alex Cruz has had his share of depression. And his body fell far from where it is today.

80076264_913164535751613_6459626088719974400_o

Depression sucks. Losing someone close to you sucks. Watching yourself deteriorate in self-pity and remorse…Sucks (been there, done that). However, victory is always through the highest and hottest flames. If you’re going through hell… Keep going… Cause what comes after is priceless… Nothing can ever hurt you again… And even if it does… You’ve already walked through hell.

A loss in my family tore me down back in 2016, and I can finally say I got it back in 2019 💪 I feel the best I ever have. Fall down 7 times but make sure you stand up that 8th time because it is absolutely worth it. Never stop believing and never quit on your dreams.

83077045_950835725317827_1736348951562420224_n

Cruz got through his sadness, learned from the experience and began living with a fresh new attitude…one that he eagerly shares with others looking to do the same. With his 4 and 12-week programs, he provides dietary advice, workout plans and ways to stay positive. And a cheeky little book called “The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck” is high on his list of recommended reading.

While he’s super-serious when it comes to fitness and nutrition, Alex is a fun-loving guy. Swimming, hiking, traveling and spending time with family and loved ones are top priorities. That dazzling smile reveals a sly (and slightly dry) sense of humor that may surprise you. It might also explain his tendency to pose with donuts and fierce wild animals.

67925142_808239986244069_8640744278449979392_n

Last summer, the strapping stud joined the team at Iconic Nightclub and drew well-deserved gasps from patrons strolling in for a drink. Who wouldn’t want a signature cocktail hand-crafted and shaken by those arms? Let’s not even talk about his bartending uniform. Sigh…

Alex is continuing to build his online presence for clients and training. In the meantime, you can find his inspirational physique/lifestyle pics on Instagram and follow his official Facebook page.

Noteworthy traits – bright white teeth, movie-star voice, head-to-toe muscle

Lee Richard Lucka –  stylist/dancer/model/brand ambassador

87379825_2583957598549414_4896935790354890752_n

Where You’ve Seen Him – “Aussie Heat”, “Men of Vegas”, Noel Dahl photography

Of all of the “Hot Guys of Vegas” columns this writer has penned, no entry has been more difficult to compose than this one. Why? Because Lee Richard Lucka defies categorization! That makes his inclusion in “Men On The Go” perfect since you never know where you’re going to find this dude.

87476555_211342506722389_4534291278984118272_n

I first met Lee while he was working the crowds as a host for Miracle Mile Shops V Theater a few years ago. Since then he has crisscrossed and zipped through the city like a high-tech drone on Red Bull. He’s always flying over/under the radar, behind the scenes and then suddenly right in front of you. You never know where Lee will land, but when he does, he always brightens up the room.

Hiking with companion (and SEX TIPS star) Louis D’Aprile…

With piercing eyes, an alluring smile and brooding good looks, the former Chicago resident is a veritable people magnet. I’ve combed his social media pages at length trying to find more than a few solo pics of the handsome hunk…but there’s always someone wrapped around him, cheesing in the background or joining him for a hug.

That’s not to say that Lee’s life is all about fun. The Indiana-born hunk attended Columbia Chicago College and International Academy before becoming a top hairstylist in a prestigious Windy City salon. Since then the 6-foot-2 Greco-Italian has toggled between life in Los Angeles and here in Las Vegas.

Despite his matinee-idol looks, Lee is quite humble and maybe even a little introverted:

I’m a Taurus. I drive a Taurus. I’m addicited to the movies SCREAM, I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER and Buffy The Vampire Slayer. I’m lame!

Lame or not (I’m going with “not”), Lucka stands out in a crowd. That makes him a go-to model/brand ambassador for Best Agency, and he’s done similar work for private events on behalf of Destination by Design. And although he’s contributed his talents behind the scenes for productions like Vegas! The Show and Aussie Heat, the animal lover wouldn’t mind trying his hand at a major male revue like Chippendales. I for one would line up to see that!

Noteworthy traits – carefully-groomed scruff, spectacular hair, towering physique

Jason Wehner –  muscle-stud mixologist

74268565_10218335868259907_5687095406429732864_n

Where You’ve Seen Him – Senor Frog’s DRAG BRUNCH at Treasure Island

The final hunk in this month’s column is Jason Wehner. He’s big…he’s buff…and he’s as silent as he is intimidating. But walk over to his bar for a cocktail and the beefy bruiser becomes a sweet gentleman, mixing your drink with a smile and making you feel right at home.

Jason’s been a fixture at Senor Frog’s DRAG BRUNCH for several years. In fact, I couldn’t resist highlighting him in my original review of the outrageous entertainment gala. Here’s what I said back in 2016:

If you’re feeling a little insecure, the basic admission package includes unlimited mimosas, served by beefy masculine bartenders. That should help to loosen your inhibitions and prepare you for the wild ride ahead.

As usual, the strong silent types don’t have much of a social media presence, and Jason admits “I suck on Facebook”. But during a recent visit to the show/brunch, he guided me to his Instagram page, where he goes by the name of @Turbo50000. The account lists him as an owner of both Brickhouse Clothing and Luxe Tours.

Even though his private life is shrouded in secrecy, Jason proudly shows off photos of his background in football and competitive bodybuilding. He’s clearly got a thing for wild thrills, fast cars, faster motorcycles and the occasional 45-pound bag of protein powder. Because living the dream requires adrenaline, ambition…and a whole lotta muscle.

download (1)

It should come as no surprise that the tougher the exterior, the more tender they are on the inside. Jason truly is a gentle soul who loves animals, children, and pretty ladies. So if your baby doll every gets kidnapped, you can count on Jason to launch a rescue operation, bust down the door and bring her safely back home. What a hero!

82929343_10218978017873246_6014735006625169408_n

Noteworthy traits – beefy tattoos, beefier arms, intimidating gaze

Revisit Your Love for ‘WAR’

The legendary funk-rock band brings their hit-filled tour to CANNERY CASINO….

With a band named WAR, you know that there is plenty of depth embedded within the lashing guitar licks, distinctive rhythms, and passionate vocals. Born out of the cultural turbulence of the 1960s, WAR was anything but a proponent of violence. One of the first multi-ethnic groups to break into the mainstream with titles like “The Cisco Kid”, WAR stood for cultural equality, peace, and harmony. And more than five decades later, their message couldn’t be more relevant.

Blending funk, rock, jazz, reggae and Latin influences into their own distinctive sound, WAR is often called “The original street band”. Formed in 1969 with over 50 million records sold and 12 Billboard Top 40 hits, WAR had a huge impact on cultural fusion. Sadly, the racism, civil unrest, and prejudice of decades past have once again reared their ugly heads. Thank goodness that WAR is back on tour, sharing an appeal for positivity with songs like “Why Can’t We Be Friends”, “Spill The Wine” and “The World Is A Ghetto”.

Many of WAR‘s shows have been historic events, some in ways that would become painful memories. Jimi Hendrix joined the group onstage in 1970 for what would be his final live performance. The very next day, he passed away. Band member Papa Dee Allen suffered a brain aneurysm and died during a show in 1988. But love, loss and a belief in the healing power of music have continued to propel the band forward.

                                                            Lonnie Jordan of WAR

As with any long-running troupe, the line-up of WAR has changed frequently throughout the years. The one constant has been singer/songwriter Leroy “Lonnie” Jordan. A native of San Diego, Jordan has enriched the band with his distinctive vocal style while also playing percussion, guitar, and keyboards. He’s seen the group rise from small clubs in southern California through their nomination for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. That same year, they released their newest album EVOLUTIONARY.

Growing up as a young man in the Viet Nam era, Jordan might not have realized the lasting impact that he and his “Low Rider” bandmates were about to make on the world, but it was certainly their intention to try:

“Our feeling was if we can have the name we have and make positive music, we can use our instruments as weapons and use our name to make war on war.”

WAR performs at Cannery Casino on Saturday March 14th at 8pm. Tickets start at $29.95 (plus taxes/fees) and can be reserved by clicking HERE

INSIDE THE PREMIERE OF ‘RUPAUL’S DRAG RACE LIVE’ AT THE FLAMINGO

Daring new revue holds star-studded red carpet gala for premiere performance…

Drag performance has been an entertainment mainstay for centuries. From Shakespearean times to Milton Berle, from Tootsie to Mrs. Doubtfire, audiences have long enjoyed gender-reversal characterizations. Vegas, in particular, has embraced the art form with Frank Marino as the longest-running headliner in Sin City history. Now Frank and other Sin City “divas” are facing fierce competition from RuPaul’s Drag Race Live! at Flamingo.

20200130_200003

Last week’s splashy red-carpet premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race Live! was a star-studded gala featuring celebs from the worlds of fashion, entertainment, media and of course, plenty of drag queens. A pre-show party with themed cocktails was held at Flamingo Patio Bar, adjacent to WERK ROOM.

The outrageous WERK ROOM is an interactive retail outlet and make-up salon designed to complement the new production and immerse you in the world of drag. There, guests can experience a mini-transformation and get their own cosmetics, accessories, and gifts to take home.

Of course, it was curiosity about the show itself that brought out the crowds, and the famous Flamingo Showroom was packed to capacity. What could have been a clumsy attempt to modernize drag entertainment in less-capable hands became one of the biggest surprises to hit the Strip in years. The fully-conceptualized production, directed by RuPaul herself, features a soundtrack of new original songs and exciting choreography by Jamal Sims (Disney’s Aladdin – 2019).

A rotating cast of six “contestants” takes the audience, by way of song and dance, through various personal experiences and how they came to compete on RuPaul’s Drag Race. They explore the ways that the long-running TV series changed their lives and what it means to influence our ever-changing and troubled culture. Never preachy, the storyline acknowledges the difficulties faced by those of alternate lifestyles while maintaining a tongue-in-cheek perspective brimming with positivity and love.

No expense has been spared to bring RuPaul’s Drag Race vividly to life on a stage. Flamingo’s showroom has been outfitted with amazingly realistic video backdrops, dazzling LED curtains, a booming sound system, and eye-catching sets. Costumes and make-up design are suitably outrageous, and each featured “queen” is given an opportunity to shine in solo numbers. Following the TV show’s format, RuPaul then has them compete in various challenges before a big showdown to determine the winner.

Fans of La Cage and DIVAS may think that drag queens are simply celebrity female impersonators. That may have been true in the past, but no longer! What makes RuPaul’s Drag Race Live a complete re-invention of traditional drag is that this time, the “ladies” themselves are the stars. Every performer has created a unique character and persona, each with their own legion of rabid fans.

The exception is Derrick Barry, the world’s best-known Britney Spears impersonator. Barry is a Vegas local who’s achieved international stardom thanks to appearances on television shows like America’s Got Talent and years of live performance. But it’s his personal journey into show business and through worldwide acceptance that’ll capture your imagination.

Along with Barry, the opening cast includes series favorites Asia O’Hara, Kameron Michaels, Naomi Smalls, Vanessa “Vanjie” Matteo, and Yvie Oddly. They’re backed by the “Pit Crew”, a troupe of sizzling shirtless muscle boys whose dance skills could make the Chippendales envious. It all comes together in an outrageous night that redefines drag shows…and Las Vegas stage productions as a whole.

At a press conference the next morning, RuPaul stated that he hopes to see the show expand beyond Vegas, perhaps even to Broadway. But for the time being, he’s just very excited that RuPaul Drag Race Live! has become a sparkly and explosive reality. “The show is a smash hit” he exclaimed to the cast. “The show is a smash hit!”.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Live! performs Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 9:30pm. Save $42 by ordering tickets at BestOfVegas

UPDATE 6/9/20 – I’ve received word from band member Vannessa Naeta that The JETS are planning to return in July, possibly August of this year. Follow Vegas Unfiltered Blog on Facebook for updates.

No matter what era you grew up in, chances are that you’re a fan of 80’s and 90’s music. Even today’s teens know how great the era was, thanks to the lasting influences of Tina Turner, Queen, Elton John, and boy bands like NKOTB. Now you can groove, funk and jive through the greatest years of pop music with the breakout band that made it real…The Jets.

JETS THROWBACK PIC 2

Now playing at Miracle Mile’s V Theater, THE JETS – The 80’s & 90’s Experience is a fast-paced jukebox of the songs you know and love. Original members LeRoy, Haini and Rudy Wolfgramm are joined by sister Etivise Haunga, cousin Vannessa Naeata, LeRoy’s 18-year-old son Evan and keyboardist Mychael Pollard.

The Jets were originally comprised of the eight eldest of seventeen siblings from the Wolfgramm family. They were the first breakthrough entertainers from the island kingdom of Tonga. Gifted with natural talent and great looks, their incredible family dynamic shines through every set. The group pumps out memorable covers of dance, rock, pop and that unmistakable Minneapolis funk made famous by Prince and Morris Day.

The 80’s and 90’s Experience opens with a lengthy medley of The Jets‘ own favorites and those made famous by C + C Music Factory, Grammy winner Jody Watley and Madonna. Barely pausing to catch a breath, they dance through the material of Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, TLC, Fugees, Will Smith, Destiny’s Child…even Vanilla Ice.

Of course, the show truly shines when The Jets revisit their own smash singles. With eight top-ten hits and three certified Gold and Platinum albums, the music of The Jets seemed to be everywhere at their peak. They appeared in the soundtracks for movies like Beverly Hills Cop II, Karate Kid Part 3 and Whoopi Goldberg’s Burglar, and their songs continue in rotation on many Adult Contemporary stations today.

It’ll be hard to believe that three decades have passed when The Jets deliver such classics as “Cross My Broken Heart”, “You Got It All”, “Make It Real” and of course “I’ve Got A Crush On You”. Decked out in colorful outfits that evoke the 80’s, they provide their own musical accompaniment, playing drums, guitar and keyboards while dancing across the stage and up and down the aisles.

The boundless enthusiasm The Jets maintain during their performances is absolutely contagious. If there really is a fountain of youth, it exists back on those Polynesian islands of the Wolfgramm family tree. And you’ll feel like a teenager, too, when you see The Jets – The 80’s and 90’s Experience. It’s a soaring time capsule you’ll want to open again and again.

Las Vegas earned its title as the City of Entertainment through years of world-class headliners. From Tom Jones and Tina Turner to Dean Martin and Gladys Knight…they all paved the way for the stars of today. And you can revisit every one of these legendary performances in VEGAS! The Show.

20200121_184600

The long-running VEGAS! The Show (at Saxe Theater inside Planet Hollywood’s Miracle Mile Shops) is as fresh as the day it opened nearly a decade ago. It’s a large-scale treat with massive sets, superb choreography, an outstanding setlist and much, much more. Whether you’re new to Vegas entertainment or a longtime devotee, VEGAS! The Show is a journey through the decades that’s not to be missed. Here are five reasons why:

THE PRODUCTION DESIGN IS UNRIVALED – The sets, costumes, and props for VEGAS! The Show have a wonderfully authentic feel. From the glamorous showgirl headdresses, tuxedos and top hats to the retro-cool chic of a 50’s soda shop, you’ll believe that you’re actually experiencing a trip through time.

12186279_928254923876573_294560130273056803_o

Various segments take you to the groovy days of Sonny and Cher, the gritty streets of Sinatra’s New York City, a naughty can-can at the Moulin Rouge and a visit to the candy store with Sammy Davis Jr. There are even a two-level bandstand and a mock-up of the Neon Boneyard, downtown’s final resting place for those iconic neon signs.

A WHIRLWIND OF VARIETY ACTS – Following JUBILEE‘s well-established format, the larger sequences in VTS are punctuated by a collection of specialty acts. You’ll never know who will step out from behind the curtain, from acrobat Yasu Yoshikawa and juggler Michael Holly to the troupe of riotous physical comedians known as The Quiddlers. Each one is guaranteed to amaze, amuse and keep the show moving at a breakneck pace.

LIVE BAND and SINGERS – Many of today’s productions have recently eliminated live musicians as a cost-saving measure. Not so at Vegas! The Show, where audiences are treated to a crackerjack eleven-piece band. Piano, horns, drums, and guitars bring you a musical experience that no pre-recorded track could ever emulate. VTS‘s amazing singers do double-duty, offering authentic recreations of familiar stars while delivering stunning vocalizations in their own style. Which brings us to…

81979739_10157919676152959_7203414128310878208_o

AN ALL-STAR CAST – Since the very beginning, Vegas! The Show has been a whos-who of Sin City stars, both current and in-the-making. Ballroom dancers Alejandro and Sarah Domingo became featured performers in Palazzo’s BAZ. Broadway star Josh Strickland (Disney’s Tarzan) was a lead singer for many years. Eric Jordan Young and Jaclyn McSpadden have gone on to outstanding musical productions like Cocktail Cabaret, BAZ and Postmodern Jukebox.

Today’s line-up is just as impressive. America’s Got Talent alumnus Samantha Johnson delivers stunning renditions of the hits of Gladys Knight, Lena Horne, and Tina Turner. Vocalist JT Seumalu belts out Wayne Newton‘s “Danke Schoen” then smoothly shifts gears to an Elvis gospel tune. Elijah Rock is wonderful as host “Ernie”, who takes you through the years while crooning Sammy’s “Candyman” and “Once In A Lifetime”. He and many more are accompanied by over a dozen stunning dancers.

NONSTOP HITS – Get ready for a rousing parade of timeless favorites. “Midnight Train To Georgia”, “I’ve Got You Babe”, “What’s New Pussycat”, “If I Can Dream” and “Shining Star”…they’re all here. Disco, funk, jazz, lounge standards and the big-band era get the VTS treatment in epic style. Seumalu brings the show to an emotional climax with “Rocketman” as videos of hotel implosions return us to present-day Sin City.

The Golden Era of Entertainment may have come and gone, but thanks to Vegas! The Show, the legacy will live on for a long time to come.
